This port cap is useful for protecting the inside of domes (and ports as well) when the domes have been removed from the housing. If you store or transport a dome without a port cap, you need to be aware of dust and particles entering the inside of the dome. The dust and particles might cause glare, but, in the worst case the camera autofocus might focus on particles on the inside surface of the dome, thus ruining the shot. It is wise to check and, if necessary, clean the inside of the dome from dust. With a port cap, you can avoid unnecessary cleaning.

Please note that the protective port cap is NOT water proof eventhough it does protect from water droplets, dust and light. This cap suits all Aquatica bayonet style ports.
