Reviews and Feedback:
According to feedback from underwater camera users, the Sony FS100 and FS700 cameras are best suited for:
- Shallow water
- Deep water with video lamps
- Caves (with video lamps)
- Macro videography (with video lamps)
- Swimming pool, see Kit Review: NEX-FS700, Odyssey 7Q, Amphibico Genesis Housing, UW shoot at 2k 100 fps
There has been criticism concerning Sony NEX-FS100 about difficulty to set the camera’s white balance in ambient light in deep water (depending on conditions 15-30m and deeper). In low light there might be (circular) reflections within the camera sensor. These limitations are related to the FS100 camera itself, not the housing. The FS700 sensor is slightly less sensitive than the FS100 sensor, so the same limitations might be applicable concerning deep water filming in low light/ambient light only. Noise might be visible if camera gain is set to 18db or above.
However, the following video shot at Red Sea seems to prove that the FS700 is a capable camera underwater for scenery and wrecks as well:
